Our Process

Getting everything clean

Our cleaning process is as follows:

Diapers and inserts are separated for washing cycles. Both pieces are washed using the same techniques:

First, the diapers/inserts are run through a deep rinse agitation cycle with warm water (hot water at this stage can set stains). After the initial rinse, the diapers/inserts are then run through a deep cleaning cycle that uses extra hot water (130 degrees F or slightly higher) and Tide detergent. Tide is used because it is a cloth friendly detergent (it rinses clean), and for its ability to work effectively in hard water conditions, which we have on the Palouse. The deep cleaning cycle is finished with a sanitize phase, in which the diapers/inserts are again deeply rinsed, but with extra hot water to finish. The sanitize phase helps to pull out any remaining detergent.

We do not use any softeners or additives, as they build up in the fibers of the diapers and can create absorbency issues or problems for sensitive skin.

The entire process takes just over 3 hours of continual washing before drying begins. We dry our diapers/inserts on a cold air cycle (again to protect the waterproofing material).
